What is CA AKG supplement, and what are its benefits?

Calcium Alpha-ketoglutarate, is a is a stable version of the naturally occurring substance alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG). This compound is making rounds in clinical research and has been found to improve (1)(2)(3) (4)

What are the side effects of Ca-AKG Supplements?

Ca- AKG: Studies with daily dosing of 4.5 grams for up to three years have shown no significant adverse effects by supplementation of Ca-AKG. In another research the dosage of 6 grams was considered safe for human usage. 

Minor adverse effects like nausea, diarrhoea, and stomach distress have been reported.

People with preexisting medical issues or who are on prescription drugs should also talk to their doctor before starting to use supplements. Also, precautions must be made for pregnant and lactating women due to lack of evidence as yet.

In accordance with Section 20l(s) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the FDA has determined that Ca-AKG is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS). However,research is ongoing for fisetin GRAS status.

Yes, CA AKG supplement can be used by women. 

However, women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive should consult with a healthcare professional before taking any supplements.

What is the suggested dosage of Ca-AKG? 

For Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG),has been shown in studies of ageing to improve health in old age by as much as 40 percent, mostly by reversing more than 30 markers of age-related frailty. Its maximum recommended safe daily dose of 6g. However, the optimal dosage may vary based on factors such as age, weight, and health condition. 

Ca-AKG For Bone health.  The studies showed that a 6 mg Ca-AKG supplement can promote bone strength. 

Ca-AKG for longevity: A recent study of 2021 showed an increase of 8.5 years life in people who consumed 1 mg of Calcium ketoglutarate for 7 months. 

Ca-AKG For Athletic Performance. Ca-AKG supplements have the potential to boost endurance and performance in physical activity by enhancing blood flow to muscles and oxygen delivery to cells.

Ca-AKG For Muscle Mass. Ca-AKG supplements may also aid to increase muscle mass by stimulating growth hormone production and enhancing protein synthesis.

Can we obtain enough CA-AKG from food? What are the food sources? 

However,human diet contains no Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate and can be synthesised to be chemically similar to AKG found in food. Protein-rich foods, such as meat, fish, and dairy, contain trace levels of AKG. It can be boosted by exercise, fasting, or supplementation. However, supplementing with CA AKG directly may provide more substantial advantages for some health concerns.

What are the drug interactions of Ca-AKG?

Since Ca-Akg is made from natural sources , so it considered safe.

However it can interact with certain medications. It should not be taken with blood pressure medications or calcium channel blockers, as it may cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Additionally, taking high doses of magnesium supplements with Ca-AKG is not recommended.
